# Vote on a Proposal

You can influence the future of Defi App by voting on proposals. The more invested in the protocol you are, you more weight your vote holds.

You can vote on active proposals using the Defi App [governance portal](https://app.defi.app/governance).

### Account Voting Power

Your voting power is calculated based on your account's total $HOME balance, both **staked** and **liquid**. More $HOME means more influence.

**Staked HOME** tokens are deposited in official Defi App staking contracts that contribute to protocol security. Learn more about staking $HOME [here](/knowledge-base/home-token/staking.md).

**Liquid HOME** tokens aren't staked, and so are available to trade. Your liquid $HOME balance is the sum of your holdings across **Base** and **BNB Smart Chain** networks**.**

Your voting power is equal to the sum of:

1. 4x the amount of staked $HOME you own, plus
2. The amount of liquid $HOME you own across Base and BNB Smart Chain networks

Staked $HOME is worth 4x the voting power of liquid $HOME because it contributes to the security of the protocol.
